  18. Yannis Haralambous and John Plaice are the authors of Omega typesetting
  19. system, <http://omega.enstb.org/>. Omega is an extension of TeX.
  20. Its first release, aims primarily at improving TeX's multilingual abilities.
  21. In Omega all characters and pointers into data-structures are 16-bit wide,
  22. instead of 8-bit, thereby eliminating many of the trivial limitations of TeX.
  23. Omega also allows multiple input and output character sets, and uses
  24. programmable filters to translate from one encoding to another, to perform
  25. contextual analysis, etc. Internally, Omega uses the universal 16-bit Unicode
  26. standard character set, based on ISO-10646. These improvements not only make
  27. it a lot easier for TeX users to cope with multiple or complex languages,
  28. like Arabic, Indic, Khmer, Chinese, Japanese or Korean, in one document, but
  29. will also form the basis for future developments in other areas, such as
  30. native color support and hypertext features. ... Fonts for UT1 (omlgc family)
  31. and UT2 (omah family) are under development: these fonts are in PostScript

  51. Between April 1990 and March 1992, Wadalab Kanji Comittee put together
  52. a series of scalable font files with Japanese scripts, in four forms:

  54. written in custom file format, while tools for conversion into
  55. Metafont and PostScript Type 1 are also supplied. The Wadalab Kanji
  56. Comittee has later been dismissed, and the resulting files can be now

  63. Young Ryu is the author of Txfonts, a set of mathematical symbols
  64. designed to accompany text typeset in Times or its variants. In the
  65. documentation, Young adresses the design of mathematical symbols: "The
  66. Adobe Times fonts are thicker than the CM fonts. Designing math fonts
  67. for Times based on the rule thickness of Times = , , + , / , < ,
  68. etc. would result in too thick math symbols, in my opinion. In the TX
  69. fonts, these glyphs are thinner than those of original Times
  70. fonts. That is, the rule thickness of these glyphs is around 85% of
  71. that of the Times fonts, but still thicker than that of the CM fonts."

  181. modulated stroke. From private communication: "It is my intention to
  182. release the fonts under GPL, but not all copies around have this

  277. `Rachana' in Malayalam means `to write', `to create'. Rachana Akshara Vedi,
  278. a team of socially committed information technology professionals and
  279. philologists, has applied developments in computer technology and desktop
  280. publishing to resurrect the Malayalam language from the disorder,
  281. fragmentation and degeneration it had suffered since the attempt to adapt
  282. the Malayalam script for using with a regular mechanical typewriter, which
  283. took place in 1967-69. K.H. Hussein at the Kerala Forest Research Institute
  284. has released "Rachana Normal" fonts with approximately 900 glyphs required
  285. to typeset traditional Malayalam. R. Chitrajan apparently encoded the
  286. glyphs in the OpenType table.
  287. In 2008, the Malayalam ranges in FreeSerif were updated under the advise
  288. and supervision of Hiran Venugopalan of Swathanthra Malayalam Computing,
  289. to reflect the revised edition Rachana_04.

  322. of already released Indic fonts (Gargi, Padma, Mukti, Utkal, Akruti
